Tax Manager - Sales Use & Tobacco
Job Purpose The Sales and Use/Tobacco Tax Specialist handles all aspects of the Company's State and Local Sales & Use Tax and Tobacco/Excise Tax reporting and compliance.
Including, but not limited to, timely preparation and filing of returns, tax research, registrations, and account reconciliations for all the Company's operations and legal entities.
Duties and responsibilities Manage Sales/Use Tax advisory firm that is responsible for ensuring compliance with state and local sales and use tax laws and regulations and other indirect taxes.
Responsible for implementing controls to reduce company tax exposure.
Review multi-state sales and use tax returns.
Review business licenses and property tax returns.
Manage Sales/Use Tax advisory firm that coordinates and manages sales/use tax and business licenses audits, including sample selection and projections.
Review, test, and update point of sales systems (production and development environments) to ensure accuracy of tax calculations, including rates and taxability determinations.
Prepare/review reconciliations and journal entries.
Responsible for Tobacco and Pact Act reporting Review, research, and respond to government notices.
Identify and communicate solutions to complex, time-critical, or recurring business issues.
Exemption certificate issuance and management.
Research complex tax issues law and pending legislation to determine its application to operations, including regulations, statutes, and case law.
Support request list from Income tax advisory firm Assist Tax Manager and provide leadership, training, and direction to staff.
Other duties as assigned by manager or designee.
Qualifications & Skills Required Multiple entities/multi-state sales and use tax experience.
Experience with sales tax software such as Vertex, IGEN, etc.
Experience with ERP Systems such as Microsoft D365 and NetSuite.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to multi-task.
Ability to prioritize and manage workload to ensure deadlines are met.
Physical requirements Work is performed while standing, sitting and walking.
