Industrial Engineering Manager

Job Summary The Mgr., Industrial Engineer is responsible for developing more effective and efficient operation processes for product flow into and out of the Distribution Center. The Engineer will be responsible for identifying process improvement opportunities and make recommendations in the areas of labor management, operational methods, slotting/sizing, and design of all work areas and conveyor systems to continuously improve the distribution centers' operating success. The Engineer will be responsible for leading projects to analyze and evaluate existing Distribution Center Storage/Work Area/Conveyor Design and make recommendations to improve capacity, efficiency, safety, and continuous improvement measures. Additionally, the Engineer, in partnership with the Director of Finance, and Director of Distribution, conduct financial feasibility studies related to capital equipment and investments required for the Barnes and Noble distribution center operations to support current and future business requirements. What You Do ? Act as a change agent across Distribution & Supply Chain operation to identify, lead, support, and implement projects & change initiatives to best support company business objectives. ? Assist in the development of productivity tracking for all DC processes including a full review of the current labor productivity reporting system and standards to develop/implement/manage engineered labor standards for the distribution operation. ? Evaluate and continuously look to improve the B&N supply chain competitive capability through regular benchmarking of industry best practices. ? Lead in the development & implementation of processes and methods for product and labor forecasting, staffing, modeling performance reporting and tracking, and other ad-hoc reporting as required to support distribution center labor management. ? Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities including, but not limited to, identifying problems, and resolving issues such as:
process failures, service process errors. ? Utilize the principles of Lean Six Sigma (LSS) to prioritize / re-prioritize tasks, carry out root cause analysis, and propose solutions. Knowledge & Experience ? Expert level knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Access. ? Knowledge of the transportation industry, principles of inventory management, general accounting practices, purchasing techniques, and elements of the physical distribution system will be a PLUS. ? Solid understanding of warehousing practices, applied mathematical modeling, inventory control practices, and distribution network management will be a PLUS. ? Excellent written and verbal communication skills. ? Ability to work in a collaborative and cross-functional team environment. Position
Qualifications:
? Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering or equivalent work experience. ? 3--5years of experience in an automated distribution environment and training in LSS is preferred. ? Six Sigma Certification a plus.
Salary Range:
$80K -- $100K
Minimum Qualification
Industrial EngineeringEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
